Paula Barnes, aged 45, of Aldbourne Road, Baydon, had gone on the run abroad after causing the death of 49-year-old Baydon St Nicholas’ School teacher Diane Wright.
On Tuesday, Barnes was jailed at Swindon Crown Court for eight years and five months after admitting causing death by dangerous driving and failing to surrender to bail.
In other news, a 32-year-old woman, believed to be from the local area, has died following a three car crash in Chieveley.
An elderly man, who was airlifted from the scene, is still in a critical condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened on Tuesday in Priors Court Road.
Also this week, a Shaw shopkeeper tackled robbers armed with an iron bar single-handed, after they broke into his shop in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Proprietor of Sarah’s News in Rowan Drive, Paresh Patel, defended his store by chasing the robbers down the road with a bottle of Jack Daniels while his wife called the police.
As well as all this, three dedicated people from West Berkshire, who have made 250 blood donations between them, were among those recognised by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) for their loyalty and commitment at a ceremony.
Peter Mitchell, of Newbury, who has made 100 donations and Rodney Bray and Christine Dowse, both from Thatcham, who have made 75 donations each were all awarded.
As always, there’s also a roundup of the week’s sport and entertainment news and of course this week’s £25 free fuel giveaway.
