Armed police were called to the Newtown Road hostel, Newbury, at about 9pm, following which a man was arrested and subsequently cautioned for causing criminal damage.
He has since been evicted from the hostel.
Also this week a daughter told an inquest of her shock after her father was found to be suffering severe dehydration in a £1,000 per week private nursing home.
Former Bucklebury parish clerk Ronald Charles Kent died in hospital from sepsis just days later.
At the two-day hearing in Newbury last Wednesday and Thursday, his family criticised the Bupa home, Bayford House in Stockcross, for perceived health care failings.
However Berkshire coroner Peter Bedford said a “missed opportunity” to get earlier medical intervention would probably not have affected the tragic outcome.
In other news, a former Taliban fighter is to give a talk at Thatcham Festival of the Arts and Leisure later this month.
Shahzad Nadeem from the Peace and Integration Forum, which is hosting the event, said he hoped that Urfan Azadi’s words about extremism would have more of an impact on the audience because of his former first-hand experiences.
Meanwhile, a car enthusiast got the shock of his life when he discovered a nest of deadly black widow spiders in his newly purchased Ford Thunderbird.
Marc Lang, who is 57 and works for Anchor Vans in Padworth, managed to capture one of the venomous spiders, which has now been re-homed at Bristol Zoo.
