The incident took place less than 24 hours into a four day strike by firefighters in a dispute with central government over pensions, but the service said it was "impossible to say at this stage" whether that was a factor in the delay.
Also this week, read about how West Berkshire Tory councillors voted to keep discussions on preferred housing sites private at a special meeting called into the matter on Thursday, following calls from residents to have the meetings made public.
The tories argued that the volume of responses received in the consultation for the 36 sites being considered in the development plan, at almost 4,000, demonstrated that the public was already engaged. However, the Liberal Democrat opposition argued that more responses would have been received had the consultation not been held over the school summer break.
In other news, it was this week confirmed that Newbury landmark Camp Hopson has been sold to London-based department store Morleys Stores Limited.
The furniture and department store will retain its name and its existing staff, and new owners have promised a £3m cash injection to renovate the store’s front-of-house.
