In this week's Newbury Weekly News

Newbury town councillors have also expressed concern that the development could pose a threat to Newbury’s historic charter market, but this has been denied by the district council.
In other news, members of the public are being given the chance to have a second say on the housing development at Sandleford Park as a new detailed plan is released.
A document outlining draft plans for the site was presented to West Berkshire councillors last Thursday, revealing the development would consist largely of three to five-bedroom houses, at least 40 per cent of which would be affordable.
It also outlined the creation of new community facilities such as a small retail outlet, an extension to Park House School and the provision of up to two new primary schools and new early-year’s facilities.
A further six-week public consultation period has now been launched.
Also this week, Thatcham Rotary Club has announced it has axed its annual firework display after 30-years.
President of the Rotary Club, Peter Bates, estimated that the display had raised about £200,000 for local and international charities over the years.
Meanwhile Newbury town mayor, Arthur Johnson has been handing out awards to the town’s great and good.
Catherine Moody won the Newbury Civic award and Amy Broughton won the Young Person Award.
Pick up a copy of the paper to read why they were chosen.
As always, there’s also a roundup of the week’s sport and entertainment news and of course this week’s £25 free fuel giveaway.
