In this week's Newbury Weekly News

Michael Bartholomew died in December 2009 after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, which is thought to have been caused by working in close proximity to asbestos-covered pipes at his former workplace, Reed Board Mills at Colthrop Board and Paper Mill, in Thatcham in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Also this week, Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner Anthony Stansfeld must repay £142 expenses to which he was not entitled.
He wrongly claimed for six journeys to and from his home and office, an independent audit has revealed.
However, Mr Stansfeld explains in today's Newbury Weekly News that, in fact, overall he underclaimed - a fact his critics ignored, he says.
In other news, West Berkshire’s Lib Dems have accused the district council of not listening to more than 1,700 people’s views about town centre car parking charges.
Following public consultation earlier in the year, the district council has come back with amended proposals about plans to introduce on street parking charges – but people are still not happy.
Meanwhile, thousands of women took part in Sunday’s Cancer Research UK Race for Life and we have three pages of coverage of the event.
Why not pick up a copy of the paper and see the picture gallery to see whether we snapped you trying to help beat cancer.
As always, there’s also a roundup of the week’s entertainment and sport, and of course this week’s £25 free fuel giveaway.
All this plus more in the Newbury Weekly News, on sale every Thursday.
