The volunteers have undergone a crash course to equip them with the same skills as part-time retained firefighters, however, professionals who have agreed not to strike will still be called upon for major incidents such as rescues.
Also this week, demands have been made for a full investigation into West Berkshire Council’s parking restriction signs.
The call follows revelations last week that motorists had been ticketed illegally in at least one road and possibly many more.
In other news, plans for a new renal unit at West Berkshire Community Hospital have been given the green light.
Secretary of the Newbury and Thatcham Hospital Buildings Trust, Nick Galbraith, said he was very pleased that the new unit had been given the go-ahead.
