Tim Wale claims there was a timing error as a train shot through the crossing while the barriers were raised, but then stayed down for four minutes.
However, Network Rail says that engineers found no fault at the crossing.
Also this week, a Liberal Democrat councilor has blasted a West Berkshire Council policy to provide homeless people with a bed during the harsh winter months as failing, after a man was turned away three weeks into the programme, despite him being “a pensioner with no local connection with anywhere.”
However, the council has said that due to the system being taken for granted by those not local to the district, it has had to revert to the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol as it stood last year.
In other news, West Berkshire had a busy weekend with the return of the prestigious Hennessy Gold Cup on Saturday.
Thousands of people descended on the town including, Myleene Klass, Joan Collins, Amanda Holden and Martin Clunes, to watch Triolo D’Alene trained by Lambourn’s Nicky Henderson storm to victory.
Meanwhile, the decision to approve on-street parking charges in Newbury town centre is going to be called in for further scrutiny.
The Liberal Democrat group for West Berkshire Council has confirmed that it will continue the fight for free parking for both residents and businesses.
As always, there’s also a roundup of the week’s entertainment and sport, and of course this week’s £25 free fuel giveaway.
