Forty-nine-year-old Rev Peter Jarvis faces 12 charges involving both boys and girls aged from as young as 11 years to 17 years.
Also this week, a Newbury man who invaded a football pitch and attacked the goalkeeper has been banned from attending matches, up to and including England games, for three years.
Almost 9,000 astonished fans looked on as 26-year-old Andrew Bowles ran onto the pitch during a Swindon Town FC home match against Leyton Orient FC on November 23 last year, and launched an attack on the visiting goalie.
In other news, the latest league tables have revealed mixed results for schools in West Berkshire, with the district performing above average in GCSEs but below average for A-levels.
The highest performing non-independent school in the district was the Willink School in Burghfield Common where pupils achieved record GCSE and A-Level results.
St Bartholomew’s School in Newbury also performed well as did Thatcham’s Kennet School.
Meanwhile, volunteering never dies was the message at the seventh Volunteer Fair on Saturday where 39 charities and organisations tried to recruit the 350 who turned up for the event at the Corn Exchange.
People dressed up on the James Bond and Country Bumpkin theme in an attempt to win the £100 cheque from the Newbury Weekly News.
