IN this week's Newbury Weekly News pressure is mounting on the Highways Agency to reduce the speed limit on a stretch of the A34 near East Ilsley labelled "the most dangerous in the country" after statistics

showed it experienced more than one serious crash a month.

Last week's story of motorists being fined for driving over the Park Way bridge saw the Newbury Weekly News inundated with responses as drivers from up and down the county called to give their experiences.

And West Berkshire Council has now changed its stance on some of the fines after it was informed of a fault with the road signs.

The public consultation into West Berkshire's council budget is over and to the dismay of many affected charities West Berkshire Council's Conservative administration has revealed the plans to chop £9 million from the council's forthcoming budget will include cuts to grants paid out to those most in need.
