Incinerator campaigners to hold annual meeting tonight (Friday)
West Berkshire Against the Grundon Incinerator will hold the meeting at the Curridge WI Hall, in Curridge Road, at 8pm.
The hall was where the group was formed in January 2011 in response to plans by waste firm Grundon to build an energy from waste incineration plant at Old Kiln Quarry in Chieveley.
The proposed energy from waste facility, with 74m high flue stacks and two plans capable of processing 350,000 tonnes of industrial and household waste a year, was rejected by the council earlier this month.
Grundon must now seek approval from the Government if it is to build the plant at the 20 hectare plot in Old Kiln Quarry, near Junction 13 of the M4, and the protest group has said it is holding its breath waiting for the firm to try and overturn the decision.
The incinerator sparked a level of local controversy unseen since the days of the Newbury bypass, as 3,300 letters of objection and the 2,000 plus names on a petition were submitted to West Berkshire Council.
