Investigation into waiting times launched at Royal Berkshire Hospital

Monitor confirmed that it had launched the investigation today (Thursday), after data into waiting times a the hospital posed questions about whether it was falling below national targets.
The hospital, run by the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, has also predicted larger financial losses this year than it had previously thought.
Regional director at Monitor, Paul Streat, said: “We are investigating because of problems with the trust’s financial position, and because there are potential concerns with the way it manages patient waiting lists.
“Since August, the trust’s new chief executive has made some progress with tackling these issues, including making the trust leadership more effective.
“However, we need to make sure the trust is doing enough to fix these problems and improve how the hospital is run for its patients.”
It has not yet been revealed how long the investigation is expected to take, and when the results will be revealed to the public.
A statement released by Monitor said it would “announce the outcome of its investigation, and any regulatory action, in due course”.
We have approached the Royal Berkshire Hospital for more information and comment.
