The 36-year-old, of Kennet Road, Kintbury, has more than 50 previous convictions, including for a shoplifting spree in Hungerford.

He has previously been made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from Newbury Retail Park.

Gainey was sentenced at Friday’s hearing for his latest bout of stealing.

He was convicted of two charges of theft from Boots PLC in Newbury in November and December last year involving hundreds of pounds worth of goods.

Gainey, who was legally represented by Adonis Daniel, also pleaded guilty to stealing £250 worth of goods from Matalan in Newbury on December 6 last year.

District judge Samuel Goozee imposed a 12 week prison sentence.

He said this was necessary because Gainey had been repeatedly stealing to fund his drug habit and had shown a flagrant disregard for previous, non custodial court orders.
