The couple celebrated a decade at The Downgate pub with a party for regulars recently.
Mr Yates, Hungerford’s longest-serving licensee, said at the party: “It’s 10 years to the day that we came here. We stayed because we love Hungerford and we’ve made so many good friends here. We’ve met some lovely people.”
The pub, on the edge of Hungerford Common, remains an old fashioned watering hole renowned for its warm welcome, its Arkell’s ales and home cooked food.
The managing director of Arkell’s Brewery, James Arkell, said in March 2004: “As soon as we met David and Janet we knew they would be perfect for The Downgate.”
