It’s game on! Get cooking for East Gartston’s Winter Game Gare contest at The Queen’s Arms
THE Queen’s Arms in East Garston is hosting a Winter Game Fair on Sunday, November 24.
And if you enjoy cooking, then the seasonal extravaganza is your chance to showcase your homemade signature dishes, pies, pates, terrines, preserves, liqueurs and cakes.
Judges include actress Olivia Williams, who plays Camilla in the hit Netflix royal historical drama The Crown, Debbie Puxley from Welford Park, owner of the high end Boisdale restaurant chain Ranald McDonald… and the Newbury Weekly News’ Hungerford area reporter John Garvey.
There will also be cooking demonstrations at 1pm and 3pm; a dog show at 2pm plus trade and game stands.
Licensee of The Queen’s Arms Freddie Tulloch said: “The contest is only supposed to be a bit of fun but no doubt the competition will be quite hot.
“And for those that keep clear of the kitchen, it’s an opportunity to relax, do a bit of Christmas shopping and treat yourself at the barbecue or in the beer tent.”
Competition categories are as follows:
* Game pie (serving minimum of six)
* Game gala pie (serving minimum of six)
* Four goujons
* Four mini pies
* Four scotch eggs
* Four pastry rolls
* Four sausages
*Pate/terrine
* Drinks such as sloe gin, plum brandy etc
* Chutney
* Jam
* Jellies
* Fruit cake
* Any other cake
* Four scones
* Four brownies
* Loaf of bread
* Winter flower arrangement
* Arrangement of game
Entries must be delivered to The Queen’s Arms by 10.15am and must be taken away after the show or they will be auctioned off to raise money for the Country Food Trust.
