Although it will be closed for a few days afterwards, there’s a welcome party with live music tonight, courtesy of blistering rock band Number of the Beef.

Mr Lewington said: “We wanted a community pub where we could really focus on the beer and the atmosphere.

“We know Wadworth is a great company that cares about their beers and their pubs it was a no-brainer.

“Sylvi’s done such a great job running the place – we just want to keep working on the community she’s built while continuing to serve great beer and having fun, with some food and live sport thrown in as well.”

Ms Caldwell, known as ‘G’, said: “We’re really passionate about music.

“We want to continue supporting local artists and bringing live music to Hungerford.”

Alongside a host of events going in the diary, the pair aim to provide Sky Sports to the pub and have plans to open the kitchen with a chef and menu to be announced soon.

The couple said they are keen to get involved in the community in whatever way they can and will be looking to support local Hungerford football over the coming years.

Mr Lewington, who has spent the past 13 years of his career in pubs, including a recent stint in The Catherine Wheel in Newbury. said he felt it was “about time” he had one of his own.
