It's GCSE results day!

THE wait is almost over for thousands of pupils across West Berkshire today (Thursday).

Following the publication of A-level examinations results last week, today is the turn of those who sat GCSE examinations earlier this year to discover their fate.

Newburytoday.co.uk reporters will be out and about at West Berkshire's schools bringing you all the latest news and reaction.

Bradfield College pupils have secured the college’s best ever GCSE results with more than 60 per cent of grades being either A* or A.

Meanwhile, at Downe House in Cold Ash, more than a quarter (27%) of the girls gained 8 A* and above with just under 80 per cent of the total grades awarded being A*/A.

12.40pm At The Down’s School in Compton students celebrated a 72 per cent rate of five or more A* to C including English and mathematics.

80 per cent got A* to C overall and 60 per cent achieved A* to B.

Headteacher Chris Prosser said that he was both delighted and proud of the student’s achievements.

12.19pm Well done to Theale Green student Molly Tucker who achieved 1 A*, 2 As and 8 Bs.
A delighted Molly said: "I'm very happy. It's not what I expected at all."

12.11pm Mary Hare School is celebrating another very good year of GCSE results. The overall pass rate was 61 per cent, with BTEC grades A* to C.

The school said the results represented an excellent performance for the profoundly and severely deaf pupils at the school.

Triplets Alexander, Edward and Charlotte Cleere achieved 22A* between them, with Edward obtaining5 A*, 2 A and 2 B grades.

Their parents said: "Very proud parents today! Thank you Mary Hare!"

12.04pm Headteacher at the Willink School Peter Fry congratulated his students on their hard work adding: "I should also like to thank our staff whose commitment this year has been tireless in supporting our students’ achievements. "

11.55am The Clere School in Burghclere have just announced their results.

64 per cent achieved five or more A* to C grades including English and mathematics and 77 per cent got five or more high grade passes.

Headteacher Felicity Martin said of the results: "We are proud of all of our students who worked so very hard for their success."

11.00am Results for The Hurst Community College are in - 69 per cent of students achieved the benchmark A*-C including English and mathematics, and 93 per cent got A*-C in English language.

Headteacher Roger Jones said that it was a "stunning" set of results.

10.40am - Results are in for Trinity School. Nearly two-thirds of pupils gained C grades or higher in English or Mathematics, with A* - B at 36 per cent.

The school said it's English baccalaureate results were the highest in the school's history and the point scores were very strong. Fifty-two per cent of pupils achieved five A*-C grades with English and Mathematics.

Some of the high achievers were Caitlin Hooper (7A*, 4A) Amy Jupp (4*, 3A, 4B) and Tom Ryan (7*, 3A and 1B)

10.38am - Head of Kennet School, Paul Dick, said of his school's performance: "These results are considerably better than lasy year's and I was very pleased with them. There have been improvements at all levels and all subjects."

9.50am - Some interesting national news in - GCSE grades at A* to C have risen slightly this year, but top A* and A grades have dropped.

The proportion of A* to C grades have risen to 69 per cent, up from 68.8 per cent last year, but A* grades fell by 0.1 percentage points.

9.42am - Park House head Derek Peaple speaking about the schhol's provisional results: "I am delighted with this year's excellent results which continue a positive of year on year improvement.

9.38am - Provisional results are in at Park House School in Newbury - where 60 per cent of pupils gained at least five A* to C grades including Maths and English.

9.34am - Ricky Hutchins and Sebastian Parr were among the top performers at The Willink, with 7 A*s between them.

9.30am - Results are in at The Willink School in Burghfield - where of the 173 who sat their exams 61% per cent gained more than five A* to C grades. 26 per cent of students got an A* to A while 72% achieved A* to C.

9.23am - Kennet School pupil Matthew O'Callaghan is another top performer, with 12 A*'s.

9.19am - Congratulations to St Bartholomew's pupils Elin Bevan and Anna Dean - who got a remarkable 18 A* between them! Well done girls.

9.15am - Results now in for St Bartholomew's School in Newbury - 81 per cent of students from Year 11 have achieved at least five GCSE's at A* - C including Maths. A third of students taking their exams achieved A* to A grades.

9.09am - Results are in at Kennet School, where 70 per cent of pupils achieved five or more GSCE's at A * to C including English and Maths - an improvement on last year. In total, 26 per cent of grades were A* and A. Well done to everyone.

9.04am - Keep checking here as results continue to come in.

8.49am - St Gabriel's head Alun Jones was delighted with this year's results. He told our reporter Wil Walker: "We are able to celebrate the fantastic achievements of girls of all abilities and talents."

8.45am - The first results are in! At St Gabriel's School in Newbury, 44 per cent of pupils achieved A* to A grades and almost 90 per cent got A* to C. Well done all!
