'I've got a knife' - store thief
Claire French, prosecuting, told the court on Thursday, January 30, how 27-year-old Shaun Cox, who lives on Theale High Street, stole four bottles of whisky, together worth £80, by stuffing them in his rucksack and leaving without paying.
Two days later, she added, he returned and stole six bottles together worth £120.
Miss French went on: “That time, he was confronted. He gave three of the bottles back but then he threatened the store manager, saying he had a knife, before making off.”
Mr Cox, who has previous convictions, admitted two charges of theft, committed on December 9 and December 11 last year.
Adonis Daniel, defending, said his jobless client was “weaning himself from drug addiction” and regretted the incidents.
Mr Cox was made subject to a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £15 statutory surcharge and £140 compensation.
