Reading Magistrates' Court: Jail for Newbury man who sent malicious messages

A MAN who repeatedly sent malicious messages has been sent to prison after flouting court orders.

Kevin James Williams was given a chance to stay out of jail last October.

At the time, Reading magistrates heard the 40-year-old, of St George's Avenue, Newbury, was already subject to a community order when he committed his latest bout of offending.

That order was made for damaging a house window and for sending Caroline Radbourne threatening text messages.

At a subsequent court appearance 12 months ago Mr Williams admitted breaching that order by sending a grossly offensive, indecent, menacing or obscene message in Newbury between Wednesday, July 28, and Friday, July 30, 2021.

He further admitted sending a similar message to Jake Hooper between the same dates.

Magistrates sentenced Mr Williams to 20 weeks imprisonment, suspended for two years.

In addition, he was ordered to undertake unpaid community work and to pay £85 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £128.

But on Tuesday, September 27, he was back in the dock.

Mr Williams admitted breaching the terms of the suspended sentence order by repeatedly failing to turn up for the unpaid work.

He was sent to prison for 16 weeks.
