Jamie Hince's local schooldays remembered
The rock star who recently proposed to supermodel Kate Moss, was himself a 'model' pupil, his former teachers say
FOLLOWING the news of supermodel Kate Moss' recent engagement to Jamie Hince, teachers at a Burghclere school have spoken of the rock star's schooldays and seem to remember Hince for his star pupil qualities.
Teachers at The Clere school have said that the fashion model's fiance was a polite and studious pupil - contrary to his current image as guitarist in the hell-raising band, The Kills.
Hince, aged 40, who grew up in Woolton Hill, and attended The Clere secondary school in the late 1980s, was, according to the current deputy headteacher Rosemary Black, “a genuinely good pupil” whose teachers were “very positive about him”.
These included his former physical education teacher, Mark Pasternakiewicz, who recalled Hince spending a lot of time in the PE department, playing basketball and football.
“He was a personable lad, whom you could have a banter with. He was also an intelligent student and supportive of the school, particularly in music,” said Mr Pasternakiewicz.
His former history teacher, Stuart Davies, said of Hince: “He was a good pupil, polite and hard working,” adding: “You would never have imagined that he would become a successful rock star."
The engagement has thrown up another local connection, as the national media has now turned the spotlight on the wedding plans of two of the country's arguably most famous female faces in the ‘Battle of the Kates' - with both Kate Moss and princess-to-be Kate Middleton, of Upper Bucklebury, planning to marry this year.
Miss Middleton is set to marry Prince William in the spring, on April 29, at Westminster Abbey, and Miss Moss is said to be opting for a summer wedding, in July, with her daughter, Lila, as chief bridesmaid.
Comparisons of both Kates' engagement rings have also caused a fuss, and huge speculation is now building over who will design their bridal gowns.
