Jazz pairing at New Greenham Arts

Audience in for a treat as colourful characters join forces to reinterpret jazz standards

Twice BBC Jazz award-winner Ian Shaw joins Ronnie Scott's favourite diva, Gill Manly, to celebrate the life and music of Nina Simone and Ray Charles and all their favourite singers in between on Thursday, January 20, at New Greenham Arts. Friends for many years, Manly and Shaw have together interpreted jazz standards in a new way. Manly's career has seen her immersed in jazz culture and she has collaborated with a whole host of worthy musicians such as John China, Nick Weldon, Clarke Tracey, Robin Aspland and Alec Dankworth. Shaw's music has cemented his reputation as a fine songwriter as well as a great jazz singer. Winning Best Jazz Vocalist at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2007 and 2004, he has amassed a number of highly acclaimed albums and is a popular performer both in the UK and the US. An incredibly colourful character, he has been cited, along with Mark Murphy and Kurt Elling, as one of the world's finest male jazz vocalists.
