JCB blaze at Hamstead Marshall farm

Cab and engine ablaze

A JCB blaze at a Hamstead Marshall farm this afternoon (Mon) was put down to an accidental cause.

One pump from Newbury Fire Station was called at 2pm to Holtwood Farm , where the engine compartment and cab of a small JCB bulldozer was discovered on fire.

No-one was hurt.

Firefighters extinguished the fire using a hosereel.

Firefighters said a piece of lit cardboard had blown from a bonfire next to the machine into the cab of the JCB and set a can of diesel alight in the cab.

Farmers had tried unsuccessfully to extinguish the blaze with buckets of water.

The cab and engine of the vehicle were destroyed.

Firefighters left the scene after about an hour.
