Jilted lover 'couldn't let go' after break up

Calcot man harassed woman, court hears

A JILTED lover who harassed the object of his unrequited affection was a serial pest, Newbury magistrates heard.

In the dock on Thursday, March 17, was 32-year-old Beresford Junior Golding of Carters Rise, Calcot.

Mr Golding admitted harassing Hollie Wicks between October 26 last year and February 8 this year by bombarding her with phone calls and text messages and by making multiple visits to her place of work.

Sally Thomson, defending, told magistrates: “This is harassment in the context of the breakdown in a relationship.

“But he does have previous convictions for harassment from previous relationships, so you will be concerned that there is a pattern here.

“The offences arise from the breakdown of relationships, so he obviously has difficulties when it comes to letting go.

“He needs assistance from the probation service in letting go of this cycle of behaviour.”

She added: “This was quite a sustained period of unlawful conduct and then there’s the previous history, which I’ve outlined, so I’ve no doubt you will want reports to be prepared on an all-options basis.”

Helen Waite, prosecuting, made no objection to an adjournment for reports to be prepared, but put the court on notice that the Crown would be seeking a restraining order against Mr Golding on Ms Wicks’ behalf.

Magistrates released Mr Golding on bail until April 14 on condition he has no contact, either direct or indirect, with Ms Wicks and that he does not go to her home or place of work.

Presiding magistrate Brenda Harding confirmed that reports would be prepared on an all-options basis including custody.
