Jobseeker's Allowance claimants fall for ninth month in West Berkshire





Published today (Wednesday), the figures show that in November, 1,116 residents were claiming the benefit - 1.1 per cent of the district’s population - compared to 1.78 per cent of residents in the south east and 2.9 per cent of Great Britain’s residents.
The majority of the claimants - 630 residents - were aged 25 to 49. Two hundred and sixty claimants were aged 50 to 64, and the lowest number of claimants - 225 residents – were aged 18 to 24.
This is a reduction of 468 claimants in the district in six months - with the figure sitting at 1,584 in May - and 568 less than at the same time last year.
The highest number of claimants in West Berkshire in the past 12 months was recorded in February, at which point 1,838 were claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance.
The district had the second lowest rate of Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants of the six of the Berkshire authorities.
Wokingham had the lowest rate with 0.9 per cent of its population claiming, Windsor and Maidenhead had 1.4 per cent and 1.5 per cent of Bracknell Forest residents were claiming the benefit.
In Reading, 2.2 per cent claimed in November, while Slough had the highest percentage of claimants at 2.9 per cent.
