Volunteer Centre West Berkshire's recruitment fair returns to Newbury's Corn Exchange after Covid enforced break
A volunteers charity is urging a New Year’s volunteering revolution, as its in person recruitment fair returns to Newbury.
Volunteer Centre West Berkshire is preparing to host its annual event at the Corn Exchange in Market Place after an enforced break because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“January always brings new ideas to change your life by trying something new or creating change in our lives in some way,” said Garry Poulson, who has been director of the Volunteer Centre for 25 years.
“West Berkshire is a remarkable area in which to live because community spirit is vibrant and hugely varied.”
Mr Poulson said the charity, which is well known for its volunteer recruitment fairs, is particularly excited to be bringing back the event to the Corn Exchange on Saturday (January 14).
This year a total of 55 charities – which are all making a difference in some way to their communities or the environment – are preparing to take part.
The event – called V365 – will provide the public with a relaxed opportunity to chat with groups, find out what they are doing in the community and to see if there are areas of mutual interest.
“So if you are interested in working with a recycling charity or a charity that helps young families, or you are interested in community service such as Rotary or the Lions, driving, mentoring, counselling or just about anything then this event is the one to attend,” Mr Poulson added. “Don’t be shy about coming in, it’s a zero pressure event and a real opportunity to see what is going on in our communities.
“The science tells us that volunteering is not only good for the community it also makes us feel better about ourselves knowing that we are doing something useful.”
If you are unable to attend on the day but would still like to find out about volunteering then you can email vbase@vcwb.org.uk or visit
Saturday's event at the Corn Exchange runs from 10am until 3pm.
