Joint Racecourse Newbury MD resigns

News of Mr Higgins’ departure came eight days after Julian Thick was announced as the venue’s new chief executive.
As part of the board restructure, Sarah Hordern, previously joint managing director with Mr Higgins, will continue in her current role.
Speaking to the Newbury Weekly News about the change last week, Mr Thick said: “Stephen stepping down was always the plan as part of the restructure. In effect, his role and duties will now be split between myself and other people.”
When contacted, Mr Higgins said: “I am not at liberty to speak about it due to couple of agreements in place with the company.”
Having previously held the position of managing director at Wincanton Racecourse, Mr Higgins joined the team at Newbury in 2006 and was appointed to the role of joint managing director alongside Sarah Hordern in June 2008,
The chairman of The Racecourse Newbury, Dominic Burke, said: “On behalf of the board, we would like to thank Stephen for his immense contribution to the racecourse and its success and development over many years. We wish him every success for the future.”
