Jubilee coin for every Hungerford schoolchild

The commemorative coins were commissioned by the Town and Manor of Hungerford to mark the occasion of the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
Each lunch guest at this year’s Hocktide celebrations was presented with one of the silver coins, which are the same size as a sovereign.
Constable of the Town and Manor, Greg Furr, said 1,500 of the sterling silver coins have been struck by internationally renowned firm Pobjoy Mint Ltd., whose family has been associated with fine metalwork since the Middle Ages.
Pupils at John O’Gaunt Community Technology College and at Hungerford Primary School will be among the first recipients and it is hoped that the rest will have been distributed by July.
Any left over may be sold as souvenirs.
Parents with children who live in the borough but are educated elsewhere can apply for a coin for their child from the Clerk’s Office, the Town Hall, High Street, Hungerford, by telephone on (01488) 685 081 or by emailing admin@townandmanor.com
