Jubilee jamboree plans for Goring and Streatley revealed

The twin villages have drawn up grand plans to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee on June 3 and 4, with a procession proposed through both villages.
Other plans include a street lunch along the 1km-long High Street, a variety show, a water pageant on the River Thames, and a ‘junior Olympics’.
The event’s co-ordinator, Ron Bridle, has said that a total of 275 villagers have volunteered to run the event.
“We set out to create a two-day programme of free events that will leave lasting memories for all our local residents, young and old. We have truly harnessed the community spirit of our two villages and as many as 275 volunteers have worked as a team for more than six months to make this a reality.
“Our philosophy is that all local people should have the opportunity to join in everything, so nobody is excluded from joining in the fun.
“Our celebrations might not be on the scale of those taking place in London but, relative to our size, we are pooling all our resources to put on the biggest programme that we can for this special occasion.”
Volunteers will also be attaching red, white and blue decorative bows to front doors in the village, as well as selling 2,000 waxed torches for a concert on June 4.
Mr Bridle added: “An incredible amount of work has gone into bringing these events together. The community effort from Goring and Streatley hopefully reflects the spirit of celebration of the diamond jubilee and serves to bring our two villages even closer together.”
