Jubilee street party requests pouring in
According to West Berkshire Council, 28 street parties have been confirmed across the county to date, with 25 corresponding requests for road closures.
Council Leader, Graham Jones, (Con Lambourn Valley) said: "Street parties are an excellent opportunity to promote community cohesion. Getting to know your neighbours can do exactly that, at the same time marking the Jubilee year in one of the best possible ways."
Among those planned are celebrations in Hungerford, as the town council hosts a party at The Croft from 10am on Saturday, June 2.
The next day (June 3), at 10.30am, Goring and Streatley villagers are planning a street party on the B4009.
Berkshire’s Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be held at the Reading Minster of St Mary The Virgin, on Sunday, May 27 at 3pm.
The Bishop of Reading, The Rt Rev Andrew Proud, will officiate at the service which will include civic dignitaries and representatives of many different faiths.
After the service a procession will make its way to Reading Town Hall, for a reception.
Representatives from many organisations in Berkshire will attend the service, with some reserved seats for members of the public.
Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, The Hon. Mary Bayliss said: “I hope members of the public will join in the Service of Thanksgiving and play their part in marking this memorable occasion.”
Anyone wishing to attend should contact the Lord Lieutenant’s Office before the closing date of Friday, May 4.
If there are more applications than places available, a ballot will be held.
