Juice bike challenge a hit at Newbury Library today (Saturday)
The juice bike challenge kick-started the launch at Newbury Library.
Teams were required to choose ingredients, prepare them and blend them in a bike connected to a blender to make the perfect smoothie and impress the panel of judges.
Taking home the top prize for the adults was Under Duress, followed by the Talking Therapies team and Team Fruit.
In first place for the teenage teams was Fruit For Fun, followed by Happy Team and Awesome Foursome and Smooth Operators stole the title for the youngsters.
Among the judges was Newbury Weekly News and Newburytoday editor Brien Beharrell, who said: "I think it was a very good way to start what promises to be a very interesting fortnight.
"It was encouraging that so many came to have a go at something exciting and unusual, and it was particularly good to see so many children taking part."
The competition was the first of a number of events lined up throughout the day at the library.
And the festivities continued into the town centre, with Northbrook Street deli Oldbury's launching a new healthy menu for the event and offering snippets of its products to taste outside the store.
Numerous events will continue throughout the next two weeks. For a full timetable, visit www.empoweringwb.org.uk
