Jury sworn in today (Wednesday) for West Berkshire murder trial

David Burgess, aged 64, stood in the dock at Reading Crown Court today (Wednesday) charged with the murder of 17-year-old Yolande Waddington, who was killed in Beenham in 1966.
At the time, Miss Waddington’s death hit the national headlines but it was not until last November that police charged someone with her murder, nearly 46 years after she was killed.
The white-haired Mr Burgess, who denies murder, was wearing a grey jumper, blue t-shirt and black trousers as he was brought into court today.
The charge facing Mr Burgess was read to the jury, as well as some basic facts about the case.
Miss Waddington, a former St Gabriel’s School pupil, was killed on October 30, 1966. Her body was found yards from a barn at Hall Place Farm in Clay Hill, Beenham.
