Run West Berks: Nearly 150 runners battle it out in the Kintbury 5

Nearly 150 runners laced up their trainers as the latest race in a series of running events across the district took place in Kintbury.

The Kintbury 5 saw 145 runners take on the five mile course around the quiet roads and tracks of Inkpen and Kintbury on Sunday (May 15).

Children, aged one to nine, also enjoyed a number of fun races around the Kintbury Recreation Ground ahead of the main event.

It is the second race of four in the Run West Berks series, with the other events taking place in Chieveley, Hungerford and Inkpen this summer.

Organised by local runners, the weekend’s event also raised funds for Kintbury St Mary’s Primary School.

The five mile run, which included a number of Strava segments, was won by Mark Vardy in a time of 27:10; with Jeff Bird, of Newbury Athletics Club, in second place in a time of 29:16; and Stephen Elsmore in third (29:21).

The first female finisher was Newbury AC’s Laura Nurse, who completed the course in 33:01.
