Kakehole and Popol the clowns are coming to Thatcham
For the last ten years, Kriss Freear and Paul Carpenter have been better known as clowns Kakehole and Popol, having toured with various circus acts all over the UK, including regular visits to Thatcham.
This year, however, they decided to take the plunge and go it alone by launching their own show, which is appearing at the Lower Way Car Boot Site from Wednesday, October 17 until Sunday, October 21.
The pair decided that now was the right time to set out on their own but Mr Freear, otherwise known as Kakehole, said it wasn't just red noses they had to deal with as the bosses.
He said: "Our biggest problems used to be aiming a custard pie in the right direction or not losing our rubber chicken.
“Now we are worrying about paying the wages, losing our ground deposits with the mud and generally how to get people in through the door.”
As well as his own comedy routines, there will be a host of international circus acts including acrobats, hula hoop artists, puppets, and aerial star Tarzan, who flies through the roof of the tent on the Jungle Trapeze.
Mr Freear said: "The circus is special because with such a mix of acts there is something to everybody.
"The kids like the clowns and puppets, there are glamorous young ladies for the dads and the mums enjoy seeing Tarzan flying about wearing just his loin cloth.
"In spite of all the hard work involved, we all love what we do and believe that the circus is still the greatest show on earth.”
Performance times for Circus Wonderland are 4.30pm and 7.30pm on weekdays, 2pm and 5pm on Saturday, and 2pm on Sunday.
Tickets cost £9 or £7 on the first day.
