Kate Middleton's bridal gown goes on show

Dress and other items worn by Bucklebury's most famous bride will be displayed at Buckingham Palace tomorrow (Saturday)

The Duchess of Cambridge's wedding gown will be available for all to see at Buckingham Palace from tomorrow (Saturday).

There was much speculation about the now world-famous dress prior to the royal wedding of Bucklebury's Kate Middleton to Prince William at Westminster Abbey on April 29.

Clarence House kept the identity of the designer a tight-lipped secret until the Chapel Row bride exited the Goring Hotel in Belgravia, London, en route to Westminster Abbey, and the world got its first glimpse of the dress.

The general public will now get to see the Sarah Burton design for Alexander McQueen, close up when it goes on display during the annual summer opening from tomorrow until October 3.

In previous years displays have included the wedding gowns worn by the Queen, her mother and Queen Victoria.

Visitors will be able to study the dress, which is made from ivory and white satin-gazar, and was formulated by the Duchess and Burton.

The bride's veil, which was made of layers of soft, ivory with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers, will also be on display as well as the Duchess' tiara, which was made in 1936 and purchased by The Duke of York (later King George VI) for The Duchess of York (later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother).

The Duchess's wedding shoes, hand-made by the team at Alexander McQueen, will also form part of the display, as well the diamond earrings worn by The Duchess on her wedding day.

The earrings were given to the bride by her parents, and were created by the London-based jewellers Robinson Pelham, which is owned by Zoe Benyon, the wife of Newbury MP Richard Benyon.

The design, of stylised oak leaves and an acorn, was inspired by the Middleton family's coat of arms.

To complement the wedding dress display, The Duke and Duchess's wedding cake created by Leicestershire-based cake designer Fiona Cairns will be shown in the palace's state dining room.
