Kate Middleton's old car still not sold

Despite an auction on eBay, Sonny Brazil, of Aldermaston, has not yet sold the 10-year-old blue Volkswagen Golf

A WEST Berkshire man has not yet been able to cash in on a car that was once owned by the Duchess of Cambridge, as the highest bid for it on eBay failed to meet the reserve he set.

Sonny Brazil, of Aldermaston, put the 10-year-old blue Volkswagen Golf up for sale on the online auction site last week with a starting bidding price of £20,000.

And although the highest bid at the close of the auction last night (Sunday) was £48,100, the car has still not been sold as this failed to meet the reserve price, which Mr Brazil said was based on a valuation from professional independent valuers.

However, Mr Brazil said he was happy that the vehicle had attracted so much interest, with more than 200,000 views of the webpage during the auction listing.

The 21-year-old thanked all the bidders for their interest and said he was still inundated with emails from prospective purchasers, adding that there could still be a potential deal for the car to be sold, depending on figures.

He said: “At this stage the vehicle is still available but fortunately for me there is no rush or need to sell it straight away.

“I have dipped my toe in the water and I am pleasantly surprised with the attention and bids it has received on eBay.”

The former Kennet School pupil added that there were several other people who wanted to bid on the item on eBay, but he said some did not realise they had to be pre-approved before they could bid.

In addition, Mr Brazil said his father, Al Brazil, had said to him he would like him to keep the car in storage as he felt the car would only increase in value as circumstances changed.

The car, which has a 1390cc engine and about 62,000 miles on the clock, was registered in November 2001 and documents show that the first owner of the vehicle was Miss Catherine Middleton, who used the car until 2007, when she passed it on to her brother James.

The car was then part-exchanged by Mr Middleton to Sonny's father, of Motor Carriage Company, two years later, with Sonny taking ownership of it in April 2009.
