Council calls on volunteers to keep Newbury looking rosy.
Newbury Town Council has called on volunteers to cut wildflower meadows to keep two parks in bloom next year.
The meadow cut will be in September and volunteers are needed to cut the help cut the flowers, disperse the seed heads and prepare the area.
Green Spaces Working Group chairman John Gage said: “The wildflowers at City Recreation Ground and Victoria Park were such a delight to see and have taken really well. It was a pleasure to see that so many people could enjoy the flowers.
“The wildflowers helped to attract beneficial insects into the area. In turn these insects help to fertilise our crops to grow produce for us to eat and the insects are food for other wildlife.
“So come along and bring your sickles and scythes on one of our volunteer days and join in.”
Volunteers have helped to plant the wildflower meadows over the past two years, which brought a burst of colour to the town by spring.
To ensure they bloom again next year, all windflowers need to be cut down and debris removed at the end of the season.
Mr Sage said: “We would encourage anyone with an interest in bio-diversity and wildflower planting, or if you just want to have a go, to come along and help.”
The meadow cut will take place at City Recreation Ground on Sunday, September 5, and Victoria Park on Sunday, September 19, from 10am.
