Keep the family entertained today (Sat) with racing, bug hunts and historic lunches





The event is taking place every Saturday between 11.30am and 3pm, with free entry. There will be a charge for lunches.
Nature detectives are being sought to help trace a thief who stole eggs from a nest at Thatcham Discovery Centre.
Follow the clues around the grounds between 2pm and 4pm, before visiting the centre to submit your answer, with winners given a prize.
Also on offer today is the Woolton Hill village market from 10am to 1pm, and Basildon village market in the village hall from 10am to 12.30pm.
Back by popular demand, the Tadley Treacle Fair is hosting its Picnic in the Park event. People are invited to take along chairs, tables, flags and bunting to sing along to popular songs – including favourites from both world wars – with Tadley Singers accompanied by Tadley Concert Brass band.
At 3.30pm, The Racecourse Newbury will open its doors for an afternoon of flat racing followed by live music from local rock band Global Cafe.
The first race is at 5.05pm and the last at 8.40pm, with ticket prices starting at £28.
It is also the final weekend of ‘love your zoo’ week at Beale Park, which is holding the Bugtastic Minibeast Trail for just 50p, which requires you to follow clues around the park with a chance to win a prize.
If you fancy turning your hand to something new – archery sessions will also be available at Beale Park’s Maple Walk, from 11am to 4pm. It costs £1.50 for three arrows.
Normal admission charges to Beale Park apply for both events.
Or, if the forecast stays dry, why not get out and about and follow Burghfield’s scarecrow trial, with clues sending you on a hunt around the village.
