Kennet Games proves a winner

Sports tournament for physically disabled children across Berkshire celebrates 35th year

PHYSICALLY disabled children took part in the 35th Kennet Games sports tournament in May.

Competitors gathered for the games held at Kennet School. Coming from across Berkshire the teams included, Kennet School (senior); Speenhamland, Newbury (junior); Charters School, Sunningdale (senior); Brookfields, Reading (Senior and Junior); PALS Berkshire (senior and junior); Addington, Reading (senior and junior); All Saints, Wokingham (junior); and Lambs Lane, Reading (junior).

The trophies were awarded by the headmaster of Kennet School Paul Dick OBE and the deputy head Ms B McNally.

Organiser Judy Wilson said: “Competitors, parents, friends, carers and school staff all helped to make the event a very successful day.

“A huge thank you to all the sponsors. These included AWE, JDSU, Newbury Races, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Newbury Building Society.

“The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.”

Competitor with the fastest time in the wheelchair slalom – Barnaby Lister, Kennet School

Competitor with exceptional sportsmanship – Rhianna Jordan, Charters
