Kennet School joins mental health initiative ran by Oxford University
Kennet School has joined the WISDOM research network in collaboration with the University of Oxford.
WISDOM, Working In Schools to Deliver On Mental Health, is a national initiative led by the university to help improve understanding of young people’s mental health while strengthening support in schools.
“We are thrilled to be part of WISDOM,” said headteacher Grace Rigg.
“At Kennet, we believe that education must care for both mind and character.
“This partnership gives us access to world-class research and resources to help us support the wellbeing of our pupils and staff.”
Being part of WISDOM means that the school will be connected to leading researchers in psychology and education who are working to develop new innovative approaches to mental health problems.
It also means it will be able to participate in research projects, gather data and access professional development that focuses on putting support into everyday practice.
“Our pupils will benefit enormously,” added Owen Joyce, the school’s mental health lead.
“The WISDOM network strengthens our mission to provide an education where every student can achieve academically and personally, while learning to care for themselves and others.”
The research network is part of a wider project called MHID (Mental Health In Development), which aims to deliver accessible mental health interventions for young people.
