Kennet School, in Thatcham, raises record breaking PTA donation

A school in Thatcham is celebrating a record-breaking PTA revenue.

The Kennet School PTA has announced at its annual general meeting that it raised £31,000 this year.

The money will go towards improving the facilities for pupils during social times including new seating for lunchtimes in the school hall.

The AGM was also a farewell to outgoing chair and school alumni Kelly Hood in what the PTA called a bittersweet affair.

She joined the PTA in 2012 and has since raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to support the school.

The funds have gone towards chairs in the hall, minibuses, a library refurbishment, new toilets, pa equipment and new technology.

Kennet School said Ms Hood was instrumental in bringing the fireworks back to the town.

She has also led a team for many years that supplied the refreshments for an annual Thatcham Tornadoes football club competition.

The school launched a ‘Kelly Hood Cup’ in her honour in the summer term.

The trophy is awarded to the house with the most house points and commendations.

It says this serves as recognition of the example of service that Ms Hood has given to Kennet School pupils.

Kennet School will again host a fireworks display this year on November 3.
