Kennet School students showcase invention at national competition final hosted at Google HQ
Five Year 12 Computer Science students at Kennet School in Thatcham have reached the national finals of the Raspberry Pi Competition 2025.
The students presented their project, The Drip Grip – a system designed to automatically detect and shut off the water supply to leaking taps – at the competition’s national finals, hosted at Google UK’s headquarters in London.
The annual competition invites schoolchildren to test their ingenuity by inventing products that can benefit society.
Head of Computer Science for Years 7-11 Shazia Zamani said: “I'm proud of how the team took their project from an idea to delivery, with minimal support from us.
“I was merely a facilitator in the process and watched them fly.”
Head of Computer Science for Sixth Form Melanie Poyda added: “I'm incredibly proud of the comments made by the judges. One commented that Team Kennet had the best and strongest team dynamic she has ever seen.”
Following the competition, the group has been invited to share their invention with a wider audience at the Raspberry Pi Client Event at the Science Museum in July.
