Key witness sought after attempted robbery

Police are very keen to speak to a woman who contacted police after the incident

THAMES Valley Police is appealing for a key witness to an attempted cash in transit robbery in Tilehurst who did not leave her details to come forward.

Shortly after 10am on on Tuesday, August 23, in School Road, a man was delivering money to a bank and was just leaving his van with a cash box when he saw some men approaching him.

He ran back to his van and locked himself in the vehicle and the men tried to gain entry to the van, but ran off when they realised they could not get in.

Police believe that they then left the area in a car, a silver Volkswagen Golf, manufactured between 2001 and 2003, and are very keen to speak to a woman who contacted police, giving descriptions of the vehicle and the occupants but did not leave her details.

Police say she may have information vital to the investigation and would like to speak to her.

Det Con Daniel Bowles, investigating the incident, said: “The witness may feel worried about providing information to the police. I would ask this witness, or anyone else, who may have information to at least contact me, and discuss any concerns they may have. I will then be in a position to fully explain the special measures which are available to protect witnesses in criminal prosecutions.”

Det Con Bowles can be contacted at Reading police station, via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to talk to the police, contact Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
