King’s New Year Honours List: OBEs and MBE for West Berkshire and North Hampshire residents
People working in the environment, education and the rail industry have all been recognised in this year’s King’s New Year Honours List.
William Lambton Nicholson, known as Bill, has been appointed an MBE for services to canal restoration.
He is the leader of the Newbury Working Party Group.
Principal at Basingstoke College of Technology and chair of trustees at West Berkshire Training Consortium, Anthony James Bravo (pictured above), has been appointed an OBE for services to further education.
Mr Bravo is also a governor for Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, representing West Berkshire and North Hampshire.
Also appointed an OBE is Ruth Catherine Margaret Busby, the people and transformational director at Great Western Railway.
She received the honour for services to diversity in the rail industry.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “The New Year’s Honours list recognises the exceptional achievements of people across the country and those who have shown the highest commitment to selflessness and compassion.
“To all honourees, you are the pride of this country and an inspiration to us all.”
Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden added: “Everyone from the South East receiving honours today represents the best in British communities.
“I send my warmest congratulations to this year’s recipients, all of whom are incredibly deserving for what they have achieved.
“If you know someone in your community who has done something extraordinary, nominate them for an honour so together we can recognise what they have achieved.”
The King’s New Year Honours List highlights those people who have made exceptional contributions to their local communities and the country as a whole.
Anyone can nominate someone for an honour and you can go to www.gov.uk/honours to find out more about how you can put them forward.
This year, 192 people in the South East received honours, which is over 14 per cent of the total number of recipients.
The South East receives the second highest number of honours in the UK, second only to London.
