Kingsclere carer praised for saving life of MS patient
Billie Mitchell was at home with her husband Bob (both pictured, left) and Bluebird Care staff, Denise Scott and Kat Wallis, last Wednesday, when Mr Mitchell, aged 60, became unwell.
Mrs Scott, who has been a carer with the Newbury company for 19 months, said: “I knew he was not alright straight away.
“All of a sudden, his eyes started rolling back and he started making this strange noise with his breathing and then it stopped.”
She added that his face turned grey and she used first aid skills to try to keep him conscious.
By keeping Mr Mitchell talking, nudging him and calling his name, she managed to bring him round while they waited for the ambulance.
Mrs Scott said: “When you care about somebody it’s quite a frightening experience.
“I was relieved when I found out he was going to be OK because people like him are what caring is all about.”
Mrs Mitchell said that her husband had been suffering from dangerously low blood pressure and that she believed the quick reactions of Mrs Scott saved her husband’s life.
She said: “I was on my way to the bedroom and I heard Denise calling him and trying to keep him awake – I thought to myself, this is serious.
“She was coaxing him all the time and she eventually brought him around.
“She was fantastic. Her quick reaction saved his life. I just cannot thank her enough.
“It could have been a very different outcome if she had not been here.”
