Kingsclere fatal crash man named




The man who died during Friday's fatal road collision was a Kingsclere man

THE police have named the victim of a fatal crash which occurred on the A3051 Winchester Road in Kingsclere on Friday morning.

Gary Rigby, 30, of Winchester Road Kingsclere was pronounced dead at the scene. His front seat passenger, a 27-year-old-woman, was taken to the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital with life threatening injuries and later moved to Southampton General Hospital.

The driver of the other car, a 27-year-old man, was arrested at 5.20pm on Friday evening on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop after a road collision. He was taken into custody for questioning and later bailed until April 11, pending further enquiries.

The police were called to the A3051 Winchester Road shortly after 8.22am on Friday after reports of a collision, involving a grey Volkswagen Passat and silver Peugeot 206.

Acting Insp. Andy Lynch of the Hampshire Constabulary's road death investigating team said: “Police would like thank everyone who has contacted them with information since Friday.

“We would like to hear from anyone with information or who thinks they saw the Volkswagen or the Peugeot in the minutes beforehand.”

Winchester Road was closed to traffic in both directions between Swan Street and Roman Road in the Cannon Heath area but was reopened by 4.15pm on Friday.
