Kingsclere woman first GB female to referee Olympic shotgun final

Sarah Daly, aged 57, local shotgun coach and international referee, has been coaching novices, to experienced shooters for some years, but the highlight of her career was to referee the Trap Women’s Final at London 2012.
At this final, Mrs Daly saw Italian shooter, Jessica Rossi break five world/Olympic records and win a gold medal. She also watched Peter Wilson win gold in Double Trap.
“Having travelled as GBR team manager and international referee, you get to know many of the athletes and coaches, it is like a village moving from one country to the next, but it does not even begin to compare to the atmosphere at the Olympic Games,” said Mrs Daly.
With thousands of spectators, she continued, there was huge pressure upon competitors, coaches and referees: “Yes, there was the occasional dispute from a competitor when they believed a target was ‘chipped’, but with a referee and two assistant referees on the range, even the smallest chip, or puff of powder, is very unlikely to be missed.” said Mrs Daly, who added:
“Five events shot over 12 days with the very best in the world is both exhilarating and exhausting, but worth every jangling nerve end – an experience not to be missed.”
