Kingsclere woman's charity hair chop

Millie Painter, aged 21, recently went ‘under the scissors’ at the award-winning hairdressing salon Twist Hair, of Swan Street, Kingsclere.
Her long hair – all 14 inches – was snipped off and given to the Little Princess Trust – which provides real-hair wigs to children suffering hair loss through chemotherapy or alopecia.
The scissors were wielded free of charge by the salon’s director stylist Darran Macauley, who gave Miss Painter a new look – a pixie crop.
“It feels a bit chilly now, but I’m really delighted with what Darran has done with the hair I have left,” said Miss Painter.
“It’s such an easy thing to share my hair to help people to get back to normal and feel better about themselves.”
Miss Painter is a qualified paediatric nurse, now working at Nottingham Children’s Hospital on a unit caring for children with renal failure.
The Children’s Kidney Network also received more than £900 in sponsorship from her extreme haircut.
Her father, Steve Painter, said he was very proud of his daughter, a former pupil at St Bartholomew’s School, Newbury.
He said: “She’s always worn her hair on the long side, but for the past year it’s been getting crazy, especially as she’s now a practising staff nurse, and has to tie it up every day.
“Mum (Lynn) and I think the pixie crop looks great, although her boyfriend Brett isn’t so sure, but he’ll get used to it.”
