Kintbury cake store wins three awards
Proprietor; designer and chef for the bespoke cake company, Anna Adams, entered three of her most popular cupcakes: simply vanilla, luscious lemon and Kennet carrot, as voted for by customers, which competed against more than 8,800 food and drink products for the awards.
The entries were whittled down over 45 days by a series of blind-tasting judging panels made up of food specialists such as chefs, food writers, critics and restaurateurs. Only 30 per cent of all entries received the gold stars, announced on August 2.
The Kennet House Cake Company which has just celebrated it’s second birthday, was established in Mrs Adams kitchen, and employs just one full-time member of staff, making the achievement even more triumphant.
Mrs Adams said that she was “absolutely over the moon” with the recognition as, "finally, confirmation of what we have always said – you don’t need to travel to London to find gorgeous, couture cakes. The baking has to be to the highest standard. The perfectionist in me keeps refining until the recipes are just right.”
The company also prides itself on supporting the local community, using ingredients from local producers and suppliers.
Mrs Adams said: “From the start we have been determinedly local in our sourcing.
“We have always based our recipes on the highest quality ingredients, sourced from Berkshire and the surrounding area wherever possible, and believe that this is what makes our cakes taste so exceptional.”
There was a taste of things to come for the company at last year's Royal County of Berkshire Show when 1,000 cupcakes displayed on their stalls disappeared in a matter of hours.
“When we did all of the start-up certification the lady said it would be reviewed in three years time. I was fairly sure we wouldn't still be going by then!” said Mrs Adams.
“I'm very proud of the business. I still find it all very exciting and can only see bigger and better things by our third anniversary!”
