Kintbury kids visit supermarket as part of healthy lunchbox competition

There were 21 children in all from Kintbury St Mary’s Primary School who visited the store to learn about healthy eating, food sourcing and how food is stored, with a behind-the-scenes look at the warehouse, where they learned the different ways the supermarket recycle food waste and packaging.
Seven-year-old Scarlett Slatter was the eventual winner of £20 to spend at the supermarket.
Teacher Anna Wickham Smith said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop not only their knowledge of healthy eating but also their understanding of how a supermarket works. Just brilliant.”
Sainsbury’s Newbury deputy store manager Ryan Steadman said: “We have had a really enjoyable morning with the children from Kintbury Primary School to help them learn more about the food they buy and where it comes from.”
