Knitted poppies by schoolgirl proved popular for remembrance

Alice Knight, aged 10, set herself a target to make 20 poppies in the two weeks leading up to the national day of remembrance, but she managed to produce 27. She sold them for a minimum £1 donation to her family, friends and teachers at Brightwalton Primary School.
Alice said: I started knitting during half-term, so about two weeks ago, knitting right up until [Armistice Day].
Alice has raised £30 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Alice added: “It’s for a really good cause and the money will help injured soldiers. It’s important to remember the soldiers who died in the war.
“I’d like to thank all of my family, friends and teachers who bought the poppies from me.”
Alice’s mother Amanda said that demand had outstripped supply, and added: “We’re enormously proud that she wanted to to do this.”
Alice intends to pick up her knitting needles again in time for the centenary of the First World War next year.
Community fundraiser for the Legion, Francesca Yates, said: “It is this kind of support from the younger generation that we are desperate to secure if the Poppy Appeal is to continue.”
