Natty yarn shop to open in garden centre

ALL you creative knitters out there may like to know that YarnFest, a new outlet specialising in selling unusual and exotic wools and yarns from around the world, is about to open in Hermitage.

Run by local crafter Chris Prater, from Curridge, who founded the former Newbury KnitClicks group, YarnFest will stock quality specialist yarns from Artesano, Colinette, Debbie Bliss, Louisa Harding, The Natural Dye Company and Stylecraft, with other brands to be added in the future.

YarnFest opens for business at 9am on Saturday, July 2, within Hillier Garden Centre, Priors Court Road, and the first 50 customers spending more than £10 will receive a free gift.

Whether you are a beginner looking to experiment, or a seasoned knitter looking for your next project, the professional staff at YarnFest will be on hand to help.

Chris Prater also promises “an amazing selection of wools, designer yarns, needles, patterns and kits – with prices to suit all budgets”.

She said said: “As an avid knitter, I was always searching for yarns that were just a little bit different and I couldn't find anything locally.

“I travelled the country seeking out the latest styles in wools, as well as finding yarns from as far afield as Japan.

“I'm really passionate about all of these beautiful wools and wanted to make them readily available to all local knitters.”

Chris Prater plans to hold regular ‘Knit and Natter' sessions at the Hillier coffee shop for anyone wishing to bring along their knitting, share tips and get advice.

In addition, she is planning a series of knitting, crochet and other craft workshops and will publish a schedule that includes sessions for young people to attend and learn these crafts during the school holidays.

The new YarnFest website www.yarnfest.co.uk will go live in October, with options to buy your products on line.

The retail hours will be between 9am and 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday, and 10am and 4pm on Sunday.
